The dark haired dancer in the middle was Marfa Muravyova, a young Russian ballerina for whom the role of Giselle was resurrected in 1863 in Paris. The lighter haired woman on the right was Mlle. Miette, an actress at the Palais Royale. Dancers then were not required to be as thin as they are now, they just had to be very strong, graceful, and pretty in a way recognized 150 years ago. Edition of 12 prints, 27 x 18"
